Hi, it’s Mike in Colorado – welcome to my blog.
Over the years I have bought thousands of dollars with of IM products, some good, some bad, and some that I never got around to using.
Yes, I suffer from the “next shiny thing” syndrome.I’m hoping this blog will help me stay more focused on doing the things that actually make money, instead of spending money on things that I will never put into use.
After having tried nearly every method of making money online, I became very discouraged this year after, and actually considered walking away from the industry. I was at the point that I didn’t think anything worked anymore.
It was after purchasing Mike Thomas’ Affiliate Income Secrets product that I realized I needed to re-set, refocus and follow Mike’s advise on building a home site, and a list. This blog will be that home site, and I am going to use it to help keep me focused. Perhaps you need the same reset. If so I suggest you purchase Mike’s course and let me know. Perhaps we can help each other stay focused.
I will also be sharing things here that are working for me, and things that are not working for me. If I buy the next shiny thing, I will tell you exactly what I think of it. I am not going to turn this into a typical review site where I just want you to buy it whether it’s good or not.
As I stated, I have tried it all, here are some of my success, always it seems turning to failure.
I started having success using Adwords marketing, sending cheap clicks to affiliate products. That worked great for a while, then Adwords starting banning affiliate links, clicks started getting to expensive. Many of us came to the conclusion that Google no longer wanted internet marketers using their ad platform. This was my first big disappointment in IM.
Then I started doing Adsense marketing. I started making a worthwhile amount of money with niche sites displaying Adsense ads. I learned SEO that was working at the time and thought I had it all figured out. Just when I was getting ready to scale it up, Google started changing everything with their animal updates – I hate Pandas and Penguins. My sites lost a lot of their rankings and Adsense ads where removed from some of my sites. My account wasn’t banned, but it may as well have been.
I admit I was one of those marketers that tried to “game the system” by building backlinks, sometimes a lot of backlinks. What was really frustrating was that even on sites I put a lot of work into, good content into, and I let incoming links build naturally – they were killed by Google too. It was amazing seeing the Google search results of some of the junk sites that overtook my quality sites.
I am a software engineer by trade. So mobile app development became an interest of mine. The problem with mobile app development is if you do it yourself by coding, it’s time consuming. Plus who wants to come home and code after work? Not me. I did find a great mobile app development tool and I used it to create some simple apps that did okay. But it became too cost prohibitive because I was not making enough monthly to afford the monthly app service.
I’m still open to mobile app development if I can find the right tool.
I have also done some PHP development and have a niche PHP software script that brings in a number of sales per month. I think the HomeBizRotator URL Rotator script is the best on the market (Okay, I am biased). It’s a great script that I keep updating and adding to, but it does not have enough broad appeal to make a lot of money.
Then selling tee shirts via Teespring became the next greatest thing. I started out doing pretty well with that in December of 2013. I had a few really nice selling sweatshirts to a niche market. But, after Christmas those sales died off and none of my new designs did anything. You can still make a killing in selling tee shirts if you can the right idea. My idea well went dry, but I am always on the lookout for that next idea.
The next big thing that seemed to hit the IM industry was video. Some great video products have come out lately – Easy Sketch Pro 2, Video Maker FX, Explaindio, and with Google loving their YouTube videos, this seems to be the direction to go. I have not been big into video in the past, but this is one of my focuses going forward.
On a personal note, I am in Colorado, I was born in Colorado and have lived my whole life here. I am the proud dad to one son and four daughters, with two of those daughters still at home.
Our youngest two, are our Chinese Blessings. We were fortunate enough to travel to China two different times to bring our youngest daughters home. I am a big advocate of adoption, and would love to see more stable families consider opening their hearts and homes to a child needing a home.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope I can help you out in some way.
